Week by Week (Second Trimester)

Week 20
To protect baby’s skin from amniotic fluid, a skin covering called vernix caseosa will form. Delicate eyebrows take shape too.
Week 21
A continuation of past weeks’ work - body parts, tissues and organs mature this week.
Week 22
Eyelids and fingernails are completely formed by now. Your baby now measures about six and a half inches and weighs nine ounces. By this week, you would’ve felt the first few movements as slight twitches, punches or as some women describe, even a form of hunger pang or gas!
Week 23
In this sixth month, baby’s brain grows rapidly and her hearing is amazingly well developed. In fact, scientists have found that foetuses at this age may show a preference for classical music over rock, so break out the Bach! Eyes, brows and lashed continue developing, while lips get more distinct.

Week 24:
The slight flutters of life you felt last month will strengthen to full-blown punching, kicking, rolling and twisting. By this week, the foetus would be considered viable. This means if it were born at this time, it may have a reasonable chance of survival if it was place in neonatal unit.
Week 25
While the body plumps up, skin gets more red and wrinkled and is covered with fine hair or lanu go that helps to keep her body at the right temperature. Taste buds continue forming. If your baby were born now, she would make a attempt to breath.
Week 26
The face and the body of the foetus now generally look like that of a baby at birth. When you watch her on the ultrasound, you may notice breathing movements, although there’s actually no air in her lungs. Her eyelids will open and close as she open and shut her little fists. The foetus is about 28 to 32 cm long by the end of this trimester and weighs about 680 grams.
